I am around 3/4 of the way done with the Hull Planking…
I had to soak and pre-bend this Plank going to the Stern.
I had to taper the Stern Planks down to 3.8mm for them to fit .. 🙄🤔
I always feel like a Filipino Shipwright in Cavite, P.I. while building this Ship… 🙄🤔👍
I’m slowly working my way up. ..
On the Stern, I calculated that I need to taper the 5mm Planks down to 3.88mm in order for all of them to fit.
I had to make the Garboard Strake in 2 Sections.
See how I had to make that bend at the forward part.
I was at the point where I couldn’t go any further without laying the Keel and Prow.
I used the White Glue for this.
I realized that the Keel had a bend in it. So I notched the False Keel so that the Garboard Planks lay inside the he Keel.
I’m hoping the difference is negligible. .. 🤔🙄👍
It’s been a few days while I contemplated how I was going to do the Keel.
I soaked these 2x5mm Planks for 12 hours in 2 parts Ammonia and 8 parts Water in my Soaker. Now I used both heat and gentle bending of Planks around this steep bend. I have already broken several Planks while trying to perfect this technique. Heat and Gentleness is key. 👍
I am able to get the large Clamp to push down on the Plank by clamping it against a Bulkhead… 🙄🤔👍
I don’t like to use the “Plank Bending” tools that break the grain of the Plank. IMO, it doesn‘t look as smooth. 🙄
I’m slowly working my way around to the turn of the waist.
Yeah. .. Notice the sharp bend on the last Bulkhead to the Transom. It’s very steep.
I find that I have to Soak the wood first for the Stern section. So… I’m doing it by eye so I may end up making some Fillers .. 🙄
I’m thinking to myself that maybe I should start planning more??? 🤔🙄😲
The reason I collect Sawdust is because I use it in conjunction with White Glue for making Putty to fill in gaps.
