I’m now at the Ratlines stage. I would say that out of all the processes of Ship Building, this has probably got to be the most tedious. So, I just turn on some music to listen to while I do it.
I am not bothering with Fancy ties on the ends of the Ratlines.
I made this short video on YouTube on Rigging the Ratlines to the Shrouds.
What I do is to first put Contact Cement on the Shroud and also the Futtock Stave, which is basically a cut down Toothpick.
Once make contact, I use my Tweezers to get to spacing right. The Contact Cement has just enough give so I can adjust it. Once I get the spacing right, it’s just a matter of squeezing the 2 sides together. After a hat I drop some Superglue on it to fix it in place.
I ended up using a double binding for the Catharpins. it’s a challenge doing this in an enclosed area, but I’ve tied so many Clove Hitches, that it’s second nature now.
I decided to not use the Hooks for the tops of the Futtock Shrouds. In this scale the Hooks too too much room because I’m going to be putting Ratlines on the Futtock Shrouds as well…
Notice the internal Ratlines. I was tempted to leave it at 4 going up but I decided to add another one on top. Can’t let my guys be climbing up the Ratlines unsafely… LOLOLOL!!!… ðŸ¤ðŸ˜²ðŸ¤£
As I was going down with the Ratlines, I was worrying about the alignment. So I used my Right Angle and made them perpendicular to the Mast…
I just used a piece of Toothpick for the Futtock Stave. I used Contact Cement to hold it on there and some Superglue.
So… I was thinking to myself that the Stage wasn’t exactly straight?… I’m not redoing it though… Look
